Overview
This walk is a Festival favourite, so get in quick!

If you’re looking for a walk to test your fitness, then you’ll love this challenging and incredibly rewarding walk with some big climbs and descents, and the most beautiful views. The walk includes the infamous, steep, rope-assisted track.

Beginning at the stunning Onetangi Beach, walking up through quiet Island roads and reserves until the Pukeatua Reserve on Trig Hill Road.  This 4km(ish) section of the Te Ara Hura trail crosses grassy farmland, before dropping down into the valley. There you’ll find the steep uphill path (including a well-placed rope) that leads to more fabulous rural and sea views. You’ll want to catch your breath and enjoy the vistas high up above the Awaawaroa Eco Village.  Next, you’ll descend past manganese mines to beautiful wetlands, before heading down the driveway to Poderi Crisci for a well earned long lunch.

Note:  Arrive at Poderi by 12 noon for a freshen up and a much deserved glass of wine in the garden before lunch.  The charter bus will leave Poderi Crisci at 4 pm and return to Matiatia Ferry Terminal to Auckland, via Onetangi 3rd Ave, Ostend, Surfdale and Oneroa.

Price includes a delicious long lunch at Poderi Crisci, return charter bus and a glass of wine, beer or soft drink on arrival, plus a $25 premium walk fee.

This walk is graded 9/10, which means that the route can be unformed, or tracks that are tricky underfoot with prolonged steep hills (well worth the effort in our opinion!).  The route also includes a rope assisted hill climb and maybe some bush bashing!! Please choose walks that you are comfortable with, and if booking for others, check with them too. Thanks.

Please arrive well-hydrated and bring a large bottle of water to drink en-route. Dehydration can seriously impact your health and enjoyment, particularly in hot and sunny conditions.
