Overview
Five days. Nearly 100km. One unforgettable island adventure (limited to just 20 lucky walkers).
Join our fit local guides for the ultimate Te Ara Hura experience – an epic five-day walking journey around the spectacular coastline, hills, vineyards and hidden corners of Waiheke Island. Te Ara Hura means “The Path of Discovery” — and this is far more than just a walk.
This is your chance to experience the real Waiheke. Expect the unexpected as we venture through hidden reserves, into beautiful private homes and gardens, and call into some very special wineries along the way. From remote coastal tracks and native bush to shared lunches and end-of-day wines, this is Waiheke at its absolute best.
It’s challenging, exhilarating and wildly rewarding. You’ll walk approximately 15-21 kms per day (6–8 hours at a moderate pace), tackling hills, coastal scrambles and rugged terrain – think a hilly half marathon every day, for five days straight. A very good level of fitness is essential.
11 November 2026 — Matiatia Foreshore to Putiki Bay
Launch straight into adventure as we head anti-clockwise around the island, tracing the stunning headlands of Matiatia. Soak up sweeping ocean vistas, hidden bays and dramatic coastline (check out the newly re-opened track at Church Bay too).  Enjoy a BYO picnic lunch and finish the day at Goldie Estate wines for a much deserved glass of something deliciously cold.
12 November 2026 — Putiki Bay to Carsons Road
Today reveals the wilder southern side of Waiheke. Wander through quiet coastal settlements, hidden bays and beautiful farmland as we head toward Rangihoua. Conquer the Okoka hills and the spectacular Te Whau coastal track, with breathtaking views in every direction and a touch of coastal scrambling. Finish the day the Waiheke way — with wine, platters and good company at Batch winery.
13 November 2026 — Carsons Road to Man O’ War
A big day of adventure. Climb through beautiful Whakanewha Regional Park to Trig Hill before entering one of the most rugged and rewarding sections of Te Ara Hura. Expect native bush, endless ups and downs, jaw-dropping views through Awaawaroa and Passage Rock — and the legendary rope-assisted climb!  Enjoy a walkers lunch at Poderi Crisci and finish the day at Man O’ War wine for a much deserved wine tasting.
14 November 2026 — Man O’ War to Postage Stamp Wines, Onetangi
The eastern end of the island delivers pure magic. Coastal roads, remote farmland, stunning sea views and the historic beauty of Man O’ War Bay await before we descend along an old farm track toward Onetangi Beach. Celebrate your achievement with a sumptuous wine tasting and shared platters at Postage Stamp Wines.
15 November 2026 — Onetangi Beach to Matiatia Wharf
Our final day showcases Waiheke’s spectacular northern coastline. Walk the white sands of Onetangi before traversing the beautiful reserves of Palm Beach and Oneroa, weaving through regenerating native bush, hidden coves and stunning coastal tracks as we complete this extraordinary island journey back to Matiatia.
What an incredible opportunity — gather your walking crew and prepare for five days of challenge, laughter, discovery and unforgettable Waiheke hospitality.  Love the idea of Te Ara Hura but can’t commit to five days? Check out our NEW Best of Te Ara Hura 3-day adventure..
