Experience one of Waiheke’s most iconic coast-to-coast adventures, linking two beautiful coastal locations through native forest, scenic ridgelines and some of the island’s finest walking tracks.

Starting at the Omiha Memorial Hall (Rocky Bay), this rewarding journey follows the peaceful shoreline of Whakanewha before climbing through the stunning Whakanewha Regional Park. Wander beneath towering native trees on the picturesque Cascades Loop, continue to the panoramic heights of Pukeatua Reserve, then descend via Trig Hill Road to the golden sands of Onetangi Beach.

A true Waiheke classic, this walk now incorporates sections of the renowned 100km Te Ara Hura trail, showcasing the remarkable diversity of landscapes that make the island such a special place to explore on foot. From tranquil coastline and lush native bush to sweeping island vistas and one of Waiheke’s most spectacular beaches, this is a walk that captures the very essence of the island.

This is a one-way walk with convenient public bus connections at both ends. We recommend catching a bus to the start and returning from Onetangi, or alternatively parking in Onetangi and using the bus service to reach Rocky Bay before setting off.

Please bring walking poles as the Cascades can be slippery (especially after rain-fall).
