Overview
A private land stunner. Wow, come join us on this very special walk...

Our most popular walk from 2022, Wairua (formerly known as Carey Bay) will be opened again to the Walking Festival by wonderful owner Bruce Plested, long-time supporter, friend and Patron of the Festival. Bruce will guide you as you explore this stunning piece of coastal land. BYO picnic and snacks, as there will be time in a few very special spots to take in where you are, and appreciate all around you.

Cost includes a premium walk fee of $15, GST and a compulsory one-way bus to Wairua from Matiatia ferry, (departing 10.00am) stopping at Oneroa, Surfdale, Ostend, Onetangi Hall and Rarowhara. For locals and drivers, park near Onetangi Hall, or on the Rarowhara driveway, and jump on the charter bus. Please don’t drive to Wairua to the walk start point, there is no bus back at end of the walk.

Note: At the end of the walk, it is just a 15 minute (extra) walk back downhill to Onetangi to jump on the public bus.

This walk is graded 6 out of 10. This means the route can include unformed tracks, possibly narrow or muddy stretches and steep sections. Please choose walks you are comfortable with and if you are booking for others, check with them too. Thank you.
