Overview
Join fun, fit local guides for this five day, nearly 100km Te Ara Hura walking adventure. This is the 9th year of the Te Ara Hura. It’s a challenging but stunning 5 days - you will be walking 6 to 8 hours at a moderate pace to complete approximately 20km per day, so a very good level of walking fitness is required. Think half marathon every day, for 5 days!

Want to know more? Here’s a brief outline of the 5-days …

Day 1 – Tuesday 12 November – Onetangi Beach to Matiatia Wharf
Starting on the the white sands of Onetangi beach, traversing the magnificent northern reserves of Palm Beach and Oneroa.  Exploring stunning coastal beaches through several regenerating reserves on the stunning north coast.

Day 2 – Wednesday 13 November – Matiatia Wharf to Putiki Bay
Continue venturing anti-clockwise, walking the stunning headlands of Matiatia Bay with beautiful vistas all around.  Includes a little rock hopping around the Church Bay track section

Day 3 – Thursday 14 November – Putiki Bay to The Batch

Experience the southern shores and experience some of the real Waiheke heading toward Rangihoua. Take on Okoka Bay hills and Te Whau coastal track and experience breathtakingly beautiful views in all directions, expect a little coastal scramble, before finishing your day in at Batch Winery for a well deserved and delicious shared platter.

Day 4 – Friday 15 November – The Batch to Man o War

Ascend through the fabulous Whakanewha Regional Park to Trigg Hill, and then begin the tougher bush section of Te Ara Hura, with absolutely spectacular views and lots of ups and downs through Awaawaroa and Passage Rock. Today includes the notorious “rope-assisted climb”.

Day 5 – Saturday 16 November – Man o War to Postage Stamp Wines, Onetangi

This is the eastern section which begins with stunning views as you venture north, taking in plenty of coastal roads and passing through Man O’ War Bay, before continuing on this stunning old farm road and then be treated to a tour as we cross private land through Rarowhara, Pie Melon Bay, and down to Onetangi Beach.  Celebrate the walk finish at Postage Stamp Wines (our much loved Major Sponsor) for a sumptuous wine tasting and shared platters.

What an incredible opportunity – grab your friends and get ready for five days of challenging fun! Bookings will open Saturday 11th May 2024.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a fee of $345 plus booking fee (inc GST) for this walk to cover shuttle costs where required, Thursday 14 Nov – shared platters at Batch winery and Saturday 16 November shared platters at Postage Stamp Wines, and a few drinks and nibbles along the way. Walkers organise their own food and accommodation. Please check our cancellation policy for this walk HERE.

If you need assistance with accommodation please get in touch (info@waihekewalkingfestival.org) and if you love the idea of the Te Ara Hura, but cannot commit to 5 days, check out some of our other long walks in the 2025 Walking Festival (21 Mar – 6 Apr)
