Overview
We're excited to introduce our brand NEW 'Best of the Te Ara Hura - 3-day walk and 2-days bike hire' for those looking to conquer the Te Ara Hura but cover the road walking elements at their leisure - by bike! You'll still need a good level of fitness as it's still a challenge - but it's hugely rewarding! Day 1-3 you'll be walking 6 to 8 hours at a moderate pace to complete up to 15-20km per day. Think of it as a hilly half marathon every day, for 3-days! For the remaining 2 days - we've got just the thing for you! An E-RIDE premium electric bike for your comfort and convenience. We'll give you some suggestions of what routes to cover and you'll be able to collect and drop off your bike directly from the bike hub at Matiatia entirely at your leisure.

Want to know more? Here’s a brief outline of the 5-days …

Day 1 – Onetangi to Oneroa

Explore the Northern side of Waiheke.  This north coastline is made of sandy beaches separated by rocky headlands and reefs intertwined by lush green northern reserves.

Day 2 – Oneroa to Blackpool

Walk the stunning headlands revealing hidden architecture, art and million dollar views.   Includes a little rock hopping around the Church Bay track section

Day 3 – Rocky Bay to Orapiu Rd

Experience the southern shores and some of the real Waiheke heading toward Rangihoua and experience breathtakingly beautiful views in all directions.  Ascend through the fabulous Whakanewha Regional Park to Trig Hill, and then begin the tougher bush section of Te Ara Hura, with absolutely spectacular views and lots of ups and downs through Awaawaroa and Passage Rock. Today includes the notorious “rope-assisted climb”.

Days 4&5 – E-Ride premium e-bikes

Swap your hiking boots for handlebars and enjoy two leisurely days of cycling, scenery and pure Island vibes taking in the Te Ara Hura route you’ve not covered on foot!

What an incredible opportunity – grab your friends and get ready for five days of challenging fun!

PLEASE NOTE: There is a fee of $599 plus booking fee for this walk to cover shuttle costs, where there are no public transport options on the walk – plus a few drinks and nibbles along the way (and 2-days E-bike hire from E-Ride).   Please note:  Walkers organise their own food and accommodation. Please check our cancellation policy before booking this walk.

If you need assistance with accommodation please get in touch (info@waihekewalkingfestival.org)
