Join Waiheke High School students on an inspiring coastal walk sharing stories of this special part of the island. Established in 1986, Waiheke High School is New Zealand’s only island-based high school, and Year 11 - 13 students are proud to share their kura and community through this unique, narrated experience through the eyes of a local. It's hilly and there are lots of steps but you will be firmly rewarded!
This walk forms part of the newly introduced Hospitality, Event Management, Travel and Tourism (HETA) Academy with 2026 marking its first year. Students are developing skills in storytelling, guiding, and sharing local knowledge as they lead this authentic experience.
Beginning on the white sands of Oneroa Beach, we follow scenic coastal tracks high above the bays, with sweeping views across the Hauraki Gulf. The walk is hilly with plenty of steps, but the rewards are spectacular — native bush, possible dolphin sightings, and the impressive restoration work at McKenzie Reserve.
After approximately 2.5 hours at a relaxed to moderate pace, we arrive at Sacred Blessing Sanctuary, a peaceful haven of flowers, sculpture, and birdlife. Bring a picnic and enjoy a well-earned lunch in this tranquil setting.
This fully guided walk includes entrance to Sacred Blessing Sanctuary.
The walk is graded 6 out of 10, which means that the route can include unformed tracks, possibly narrow or muddy stretches and steep sections. Please choose walks that you are comfortable with, and if booking for others, check with them too. Thanks.
*Please arrive well-hydrated and bring a large bottle of water to drink en-route. Dehydration can seriously impact your health and enjoyment, particularly in hot and sunny conditions*.
